Petit PabusCHâteau pabus
Petit Pabus is the second wine of Château Pabus. It has a different vinification process to delicatly balance the wood layering with the fraisheur of the younger grapes selected for this wine. Petit Pabus and Château Pabus are both enjoying the same attention, care and first class infrastructure as every wine produced on the Château Pabus wine estate.
Tasting Note by Andreas Larsson
Andreas Larsson, Best Sommelier of the World 2007, provides his review of the Petit Pabus 2018.
A remarkable vintage. This year, the indian summer followed by early Sepetmber rains brought the grapes to perfect maturity.
These ideal climate conditions ensured high-quality wines of ample quantities in Bordeaux .
2016 has an exceptional grape quality, crisp, fruit and fresh at the same time, with intense aromas of blakberry for deep-colored wines with round tannins.
The harvest started September 23th under sunny conditions, presenting a “very” Bordeaux” vintage : all of these young wines are already showing signs of excellent development.
A vintage high in quality, but unusually in quantity. The harvest was considerably affected by record frost in late April and heavy hailstormsin late August. Nebertheless, the vintage has turnes out to be high in quality.
Harvest started September 13th with Merlot. This year’s display a nice fruity expression along with lots of freshness. The wines with elegant tannins – are round and balanced. A lovely, delightful vintage, built on suppleness.
A well – balanced vintage. The 2019 vintage was the result of fine weather in the Bordeaux region. Once again, however, we still had to contend with unpredictable conditions and step up their efforts at each of the growing season. But all in all, the weather was relatively favourable compared to the past three years.
Under the best conditions the havest of the Merlot grape started September 18th, a good sign for Châteua Pabus. The spread to all the vineyard from 25 to 30 September, giving a high – quality vintage with promising potential. Still young, the red Château Pabus is smooth, well-balanced and low in alcohol. The fins structure guarantees good ageing potential. The wine also boast a magnificent deep red color.
A vintage that received the utmost care and attention to produce wines of outstanding quality. We did not get much relief due to the rather extreme weather conditions . Fortunately , the weather from mid-July to late September was particularly conductive to producing perfectly ripe and healthy grapes troughout the Bordeaux wine region.
The quality of the Merlot variety was excellent fot the 2018 vintagee Pickers were able to harvest the grapes at optimum ripeness, enabling each varierty to reveal its full potential. The harvest began on the 27th of September for the most ripening Merlot. 2018 has all the equalities of a great vintage, with a brillant color, notes of ripe fruit and beautifull concentration.
A year like no other. Somewhat unpredictable weather conditions, vineyard operations turned upside down during the spring lockdown, an early vintage from bud break to the harvest, a perfect indian summer… 2020 really put our expertise to the test. This vintage will undoubtedly leave its mark on the history of the Bordeaux wine region.
The Merlot harvest began September 24th. Picking drew to a close in the first week of October. Initial tastings suggest an outstanding vintage. Wines best enjoyed young are wonderfully balanced, while those with good ageing potential will develop beautifully.
This vintage is an extremely challenging vintage because of the weather conditions, even if Château Pabus suffered no losses itself. We worked around the clock to protect our vines- some were threatened by frost, other by disease pressure over the cool and wet summer, but we brought our teams together and that with favourable weather during harvest.
We started harvesting at the beginning of October. Sping was diffucult but the indian summer made everything right. Lovely acidity, a promise of longevity; freshness and very expressive, fruity character. Another facet: mature tannins that are both smooth and silky with alcoholic potency. These wines have extraordinary potential!
