Petit Pabus
CHâteau pabusPetit Pabus
Petit Pabus is Château Pabus’ second wine. It has a different vinification process to delicately balance the wood layering with the freshness of the younger grapes selected for this wine.
A different vinification process to delicately balance the freshness of the younger grapes.
Petit Pabus and Château Pabus both enjoy the same attention, care and first-class infrastructure as every wine produced on the Château Pabus wine estate.
Petit Pabus is a pure finely rounded wine with plum and red berries, discreet oak with a gentle touch of butterscotch, medium weight with a good polish, softly textured with red fruit flavours, a hint of tobacco and a rounded finish.
Tasting Note by Andreas Larsson
Andreas Larsson, Best Sommelier of the World 2007, provides his review of the Petit Pabus 2018.
Aged for 16 Months in both French Oak Casks, Amphora and Small Stainless-steel Tanks
The grapes are hand-picked, destalked, and deposited directly into temperature controlled stainless-steel tanks for the first fermentation.
A gravity-based, gentle extraction is used to pour the wine into French oak casks previously used for the Château Pabus wine (50%), small stainless-steel tanks (30%) and amphora (20%) to age for 16 months.
Vintage: 2016
Climate
A remarkable vintage. This year, the Indian summer followed by early September rains brought the grapes to perfect maturity.
These ideal climate conditions ensured high-quality wines of ample quantities in Bordeaux.
Harvest
2016 has an exceptional grape quality, crisp, fruit and fresh at the same time, with intense aromas of blackberries for deep-coloured wines with round tannins.
The harvest started September 23rd with sunny conditions, presenting a ‘very Bordeaux’ vintage : all of these young wines are already showing signs of excellent development.
Tasting Note
Attractive clear colour with purple hues. Aromas of understory and cherry. Raspberry jam, mocha, plum and spice flavours are lifted by expressive floral notes in a mid-weight typical Merlot nose. Fresh and well balanced on the palate with silky and supple tannins, offering a beautiful acid frame, crunchy fresh fruit, as well as black cherry associated with ripe red berries. Tannins are fine and slightly tight, with a nice, powered final.
Vintage: 2017
Climate
A vintage high in quality, but unusually in quantity. The harvest was considerably affected by a record frost in late April and heavy hailstorms in late August. Nevertheless, the vintage has turned out to be high in quality.
Harvest
The harvest started September 13th with Merlot. This year’s harvest displays a nice fruity expression along with lots of freshness. The wines with elegant tannins are round and balanced. A lovely, delightful vintage, built on suppleness.
Tasting Note
Garnet colour with amber reflections. The nose is aromatic, elegant, with fresh mentholated and spicy aromas, revealing the density and richness of the wine. Notes of blackberry and cassis, with a little touch of crushed strawberry, chocolate, and almond. The wine is round, with a smooth and supple structure.
Vintage: 2018
Climate
A well-balanced vintage. The 2019 vintage was the result of fine weather in the Bordeaux region. Once again, however, we still had to contend with unpredictable conditions and step up their efforts at each of the growing season. But all in all, the weather was relatively favourable compared to the past three years.
Harvest
Under the best conditions the harvest of the Merlot grape started September 18th, a good sign for Châteua Pabus. The spread to all the vineyard from 25 to 30 September, producing a high-quality vintage with promising potential. Still young, the red Château Pabus is smooth, well-balanced and low in alcohol. The fine structure guarantees good ageing potential. The wine also boasts a magnificent deep red colour.

butterscotch, medium weight with good polish, softly textured with digest red fruit flavours a hint of tobacco and a rounded finish.
Vintage: 2019
Climate
A vintage that received the utmost care and attention to produce wines of outstanding quality. We did not get much relief due to the rather extreme weather conditions . Fortunately, the weather from mid-July to late September was particularly conductive to producing perfectly ripe and healthy grapes throughout the Bordeaux wine region.
Harvest
The quality of the Merlot variety was excellent for the 2018 vintage. Pickers were able to harvest the grapes at optimum ripeness, enabling each variety to reveal its full potential. The harvest began on the 27th of September for the most ripe Merlot. The 2018 has all the equalities of a great vintage, with a brilliant colour, notes of ripe fruit and beautiful concentration.
Tasting Note
Beautiful dense colour with purple hues. The fruit is ripe and marked by aromas of black cherry. The taste is unctuous, juicy, and saline with beautiful unctuous tannins and a subtle woodiness giving the wine a nice complexity.
